Sports impact to biodiversity
Biodiversity is the variety of life. It includes
all the plants, animals, fungi, algae etc. It also includes all the living
organisms that live on this planet. There are 3 types of biodiversity- Genetic,
Species and Ecological Diversity.
Below I
have listed down some impacts of sports on biodiversity:
1)
Managing Sports facility
Building as well as
managing a sports facility and starting/operating an event uses a lot of energy
that can then cause air pollution, waste generation and greenhouse gas
emissions, as well as ozone-layer depletion, habitat/biodiversity loss, soil
erosion and, water pollution.
2)
Activities that are affecting marine habitats
Various sports like,
scuba diving, swimming in oceans, etc., are held underwater and it causes
marine life destruction. It also causes many aquatic animals to die.
3)
Sports Equipment
As the population
increases the demand for sports equipment increases too. Some of the equipment
is made of materials that the natural world (biodiversity) gives us. Materials
like- wood. People are also making sports equipment with plastic, and when they
are done with using the equipment it goes into landfills and never degrades,
which is therefore harming and causing biodiversity loss.
